Now a blasphemy case in Multan...

by Salman Hameed

Bomb blasts against Shias in Quetta and Karachi. Targeted killing of the social worker and the director of the amazing Orangi Pilot Project in Karachi. Burning of a Christian neighborhood in Lahore. Targeted killing of a shia doctor (and his son). These are some of the highlights just from the past few weeks. But there is no sign of the abating of this tide. Now we have a blasphemy case in Multan against a visiting lecturer in English at Bahauddin Zakariya University (tip from Anila Athar Hasan). It seems that this time it is again a turn of Ahmadis (my guess - since there is a reference to them in the news item below) to face the wrath of the "pious" and the "pure" and their form of justice: "He made a blasphemous remark on Facebook! Execute him! Actually - this is exactly what they are saying:

The anger boiled further against a visiting lecturer of English Department of Bahauddin Zakariya University, who committed blasphemy, as the students brought out a rally against him while Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat (TTNR) held protest meeting here on Thursday.
The participants of the rally and protest meeting demanded immediate arrest and execution of the culprit, hurling a warning to the government that they would be forced to take to roads if the action was not taken forthwith. The visiting lecturer and MPhil student in English Department Junaid Hafeez made blasphemous comments on a social networking website which sparked strong reaction in BZU. The BZU administration announced that the admission and hostel allotment of the culprit were cancelled and a ban was imposed on his entry. He fled.
Meanwhile, addressing a joint meeting of all religious parties under the umbrella of TTNR, the leaders Qari Ahmad Mian, Dr Ashraf Ali Ateeq, Asif Mahmood Akhwani, Rao Zafar Iqbal, Syed Khalid Mahmood Nadeem, Inayat Ullah Rehmani, Syed Kafeel Shah Bokhari and others strongly condemned the incident and said that qadianis were being given shelter by some elements in BZU. They added that frequent incidents of blasphemy and preaching of qadianiat took place in BZU but no action was taken against the culprits. They asked the government to take notice of concurrent blasphemy incidents at BZU and launch an immediate action otherwise the workers of TTNR would be forced to encircle the varsity and punish the culprits themselves.

What kind of reporting is this? This so called newspaper article already says that "he committed blasphemy" and then goes on to refer the Ahmadis by their pejorative name of Qadiani. But the news item said that Junaid Hafeez fled. Since the police never catch anyone after terrorism acts, I'm sure that their incompetency will this time be beneficial. Oh - no wait. They caught him and have sent him back to Multan to face blasphemy charges.

There is no end in sight. The last couple of years seem to be the beginning of a much darker night.

And yes, these things are not limited to minorities. Just see the case of our own friend and astronomer, Umair Asim, in the burning of his school for supposed blasphemy charges (see here and here)

Also read this from last August: Let's paint our flag green, we don't deserve white (those who are unfamiliar, the white was supposed be the symbol of religious (non-Muslm) minorities as part of the nation of Pakistan).

  4. How people can twist facts is obvious from the article and from the anonymous comments. Anonymous "A sufi poet"? Would u post his "sufi poetry" here? And why don't you discuss his alleged posts here and enlighten us how mystic and sufi or even islamic his posts are? Please don't insult the genuine feelings of students who were angry over nonsense that he used to spread and the way he insulted the religion and Prophet(PBUH)through his posts. Don't lie to save your friend/guru saying it was a conspiracy by some party against him.And let me tell u the person u present as a rival visiting lecturer is not a lecturer nor he applied for lecturership as he is a student. What about those 2000 students who protested were they his rivals. And better you update ur facts and knowledge abt what police has found in their investigation.

  5. Dear Anonymous #2:
Can you elaborate what did Junaid say that incensed those 2000 students and that warranted a call for his execution?

    Thanks.

This is the link to junaid's profile. plz go n have a look at it. There r lots of anti-islam stuff n comments given by him. He use to discuss things against Allah (Naozobillah) and Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) a number of times. I can quote a number statements given by him. In U.G.S once a student said Allah noor hai. He got really angry on this n started saying pathetic stuff. During his studies he use to pass comments on Islam and his words expressed his evil thoughts very openly that he never believed in the divine existence of Allah (Naozobillah) and this is wat he tried to transfer to his students as well. Supporting somebody like him means going against Allah (Naozobillah).

  15. I have just gone through his Facebook posts and his comments. What exactly is the issue? Is being against the Taliban now being considered being against Islam? Is criticizing the shooting Malala a problem? Is the accusation that the Taliban are misusing religion blasphemous?

Please enlighten us of the objection from his Facebook profile.

    Trees In Dreams
    Last night, perhaps the mid-night
I dreamed a dream which I ain’t able to write
But still I try to cite:
I found you and me in the woods
Only you and me, no other goods!

We wished to live together here forever
We sighed: Would God do us this favour?
The sky got tear, a fairy appeared in white-wear
She came close to us and whispered in our ears:
“God has shown instant mercy on you,
Now you two can live here too!”
We two, couldn’t understand why she said “too!”
    But we didn’t care
We were happy that God respected our prayer
It happens rare that lovers live together forever!

We used to welcome and good-bye the sun
With smiles, hands waving and some fun!
In between the trees, we used to run
But sometimes, besides us trees also used to run
We were afraid of the movements
But the only solution was consolation through embracements!

I used to comb your hair
You used to sleep in my arms
Seeing you asleep, I used to whisper in your ears:
“You look so cute, innocent and calm.”
But once it happened I saw through the trick
    For listening to my love-words,
You pretended to asleep like a tired kid!
Yeah (sigh), it was so romantic and yet realistic
Every flower, every happiness, we together used to pick
Seeing nests, we thought to build a home of brick
But we were afraid of His kick
Since these trees were enough to stick!

Years passed by, but still we remained shy
We were always true, in love why to lie?
We were overwhelmed by the abundance of blisses!
So many blisses, even more than we made kisses!
We can’t count kisses, so how can the blisses?

We were often surprised we are the only ones here?
Often thinking logically where have we here?
Why was the rest of the world not there?
    But there were no replies!
And we remained mysterious about the carved trees!
These trees made us forget all the queries and miseries
In favour of all this: no logics, no theories!

Then a day came when it rained
    Sky sent us a saint
    He bellowed in our ears:
“You are about to dry,You are about to die!”
You got horrified, I got terrified
Simultaneously, we turned mad and sad
What about our prayer of living together forever
God turned back from His words? No, never!
The final day for this life came
The love we made here can never range
Love remains same, only appearances change!
Now we have become the trees
Like all the other humans who wished to live together forever!
He turned back from His words? No, never!
Love remains the same, only appearances change!
We still are lovers, lovers together, together forever!
Now, we see another “we” in the same woods
They run, and besides them, we also run
They are also confused, but don’t abuse
One day, after facing the final day,
    They will also become trees
And these trees will become more thick
More inviting as an ideal place to live together,
Ideal place to stick together forever….

  17. "In the name of Holy God who is always absent without leave and his omnipotent absence is always taken as presence"

These were his lines at an occasion held at B.Z.U in which "Qaisra sheraz" the famous novelist was invited. Mr. Junaid the so called Muslim started that occasion with these lines and how can u call him a Muslim when he himself called him an atheist. He always use to say that he nevr believed in any religion n used to say that there is no existence of Allah and told ppl that he is an atheist. I think sir Salman Hameed uv'e not seen his posts and comments or rather uv'e not read them properly. If any body will change the translation of
Bismillah this way i am sorry no Muslim will ever forgive that person. He liked a post in which there was some really disgusting stuff related to Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) and the word "Peace" was replaced to a very disgusting word. and mind u its not only some studnts who r against him but the police has retrieved data from his laptop n there was much more disgusting and pathetic stuff in his laptop which showed that he was in no way a Muslim and does not deserve to be called one.

  18. u fool that post was not his and facebook only has like button , u will find that in news like " 1000 hazara shia killed" 200 people liked it , it means they like killing of them , u ass hole it means that they want to make it prominent so people comment on that , and where is proof u hypocrite? his wall is open and in front of world now,

  22. i never used a single abusive word for the supporters of junaid but just see the difference. Mr/ms anonymous u've used 2 words for me. This shows y u r supporting junaid. He was extremely rigid of his thoughts and if nybody wud try to go against his ideas and thoughts he wud use the same words. The lines i've written in the beginning do u support these lines said by him. It wasn't nybody's comment he liked, it wasn't anybody else who said these lines. It was his words, he used them in front of hundreds of people. How can nybody n ny Muslim use such words for Allah. Allah is everywhere He is absent without leave??Wat the hell..we don't need such evil genious ppl who try to spread and impose their evil and pathetic thinking on to others. Anybody can follow their beliefs but nobody has the right to use such fowl words infront of students n class fellows. If somebody according to u is a Muslim.

  23. U said that facebook just has like button. If crap is written against ur parents wud u like that post??would u like it just to make it prominent infront of ppl. Wow wat intelligence. If somebody tries to disgrace ur family. u'll like the post to show that u dint like it.

  24. And as far as ur example is concerned about the shia killing. Its not about the picture, its about the caption. If the caption says start killing shias but the picture represent shia killed n bleeding. u wont like it to support the cause n on the other hand if the caption says Stop shia killing than the story changes but same visuals r used to represent 2 different thoughts.

  26. So liking a post is blasphemy?
Hello madam! Are you quite clear??
Let me become more precise! So liking a post in a closed group of 90 ppl ranging from extremists (of both sides), centrists and liberals is blasphemy? For a fraction of second we assume so then the real question is still pending and believe me it is a very tough 1 and this question is specific for Madam Freha Munir and Sir Akbar Tabish. This is a question which is formulated after a detailed study of 295 b and c and it states whether making a pamphlet having blasphemous content and distributing it to more than 2000 ppl and inflicting their religious emotions is the real blasphemy or not ?was this all mess came out of a sudden incident ? U ppl referred to fb page, his like and his wall and some incidents which are months and years back of this incident and even if we assume them to be correct they are not fresh . Am I right? Making pamphlet, distributing it, organizing people for a protest is a much planned phenomena. Again, I raise the same question whether this all came out of a sudden incident or it was planned on hostels, houses and faculty rooms. I am sorry madam/sir I am not ready to admit it was a sudden incident. Rather it was planned. The fb data and the message record of above 2 ppl will be quite enough to reveal all the major and minor details of this case. The other culprits will be on the board as well (police has done quite well in this regard thanks God) Let me tell you dear viewers/readers this argumentation is just revolving around the legalities of this case. Now should I bring it to a broader perspective? Should i answer all the questions raised till date? Should I throw hundreds of tangible evidences which I am holding at the moment regarding the real culprits?? or should we all wai8 for the very proper time ?

  29. How can people who know that guy and his nonsense well defend him so shamelessly. @ Salman Hameed, you should have done some research before posting your biased article. It was mainly his own posts and others posts in the group 'so called liberals of Pakistan' that enraged people. He created that group and was running it as the only admin. He was spitting all kind of nonsense venom against Islam and the Holy Prophet (PBUH), kind of things that no civilized and sesnsible person would say even abt his enemy.

  36. God's wrath must fall on those who are blaming people guilty of blasphemy without bringing any solid proof against them. Musharraf came to Pakistan with a belief that he has millions of likes on facebook, where are those likes now. Like on facebook does not mean that you actually support this. It keeps the post in your timeline so that when you need to comment on it you can go back an find it in your search. You stupid morans and your Mullahs use technology to give your so-called support to Islam and don't even know how technology works. You are the kind of people who used to say TV, computer and internet are Haram when these were introduced for the first time in Pakistan and know you love it and use it to accuse others. What a shame!

  40. Its really hurting to see someone targeted on the charges on blasphemy when religion offers anyone to disagree.Allah has taken his responsibility to protect Quran and the religion and He has not authorised any human the right to decide and declare killing in the name of blasphemy. There used to be blasphemous acts during the time of the Prophet (may Peace be upon Him) but no one was executed in terms of Blasphemy or heresy. Actually killing in the name of Heresy is against Islam of the Prophet (MPBHU) but it is the main item of the Mullah Islam today.
