It is hard to pin down William Shatner. He is now 80, still active and very creative! Of course, it was hard for him to ever escape the shadow of Captain Kirk. Now he has a fascinating solo autobiographical show on Broadway called Shatner's World: We Just Live in it. Ok - but I want to point you to his Fresh Air interview. It is actually quite good and it provides a fascinating look on why he started making fun of the character of Captain Kirk - and how he regained his respect for the role after watching Patrick Stewart play Picard on the Star Trek - The Next Generation. Shatner is a fascinating guy.
And here are two bonus items. In the interview, they play an audio clip of Kirk's speech on value of taking risks. In particular he is talking about the risks of contacting with alien civilizations. Here is the clip:
Good stuff!
And now a special treat for you. Here is Shatner's totally random, weird and spectacular take on "Bohemian Rhapsody" - with my full apologies to Freddie Mercury. Enjoy!
Ha!!!
