Cities and science was the focus of the October 21st issue of Nature (you may need a subscription to access the articles). There was an interesting figure in the journal mapping scientific publications with geography (click on it to see a larger version):
If this was a map of light-pollution, most of the Muslim world would be fantastic for stargazing (though with some notable spikes in Turkey and Iran), and Boston and London will be bright as a day at night-time. I don't think there is any new information here, but I just thought that this was an interesting display of publications data.
