Well..this may be a bit of a stretch for science & religion. But here is a Fresh Air interview with John Mellencamp. About 12 minutes into the interview, Terry Gross asks Mellencamp to sing the following lines from his song, This is our country (appropriate for a July 4th posting here - and no - no- it's not about selling any cars):There's room enough here
For science to live
And there's room enough here
For religion to forgive
And try to understand
All the people of this land
This is our country
The interview is quite good - even though a lot of it is about his songs about mortality. Also, it is great the way he corrects Terry Gross multiple times in the interview. Enjoy.
In his latest album, Life, Death, Love and Freedom, Mellencamp presents a collection of what he calls "modern electric folk songs," in which he muses largely on mortality (his own) and impending trouble (in the wider world)
